Houston Wilderness Visits High Island
On Monday the Houston Wilderness office headed down to the coast to visit High Island, a wooded area on the tip of the Bolivar Peninsula famous for the beautiful array of birds that take refuge after migrating hundreds of miles across the Gulf of Mexico from the Yucatán Peninsula.
Check out the video below (not taken by HW) of the Rookery on High Island, where Spoonbills and Egrets nest on an island protected from predatory mammals by alligators that patrol the waters around it. (We did see an alligator eat an egret)
